Some Duluth Heights residents are attempting to block an expansion of the Ponderosa Groves housing subdivision. Developer Philip Johnson wants to build 64 single- family homes, four duplexes, and 19 four-unit townhomes near the intersection of Swan Lake Road and Arrowhead Road.
A plan for the West Duluth business district and surrounding neighborhood is available from the city of Duluth Planning and Development Department. The plan presents ideas to rejuvenate the business district and control development in surrounding residential districts.

Duluth's newly formed Veterans Outreach North is the state's first veterans' organization to receive federal Housing and Urban Development funding. A $79,000 grant announced this week will be used by the organization to continue to help Duluth veterans avoid homelessness.

More than 2,000 people are expected to gather at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center for the St. Mary's New Year's Eve Party. Partygoers will rock to Mynx and the Uncolas or dance to the big band sounds of the Randy Lee Orchestra.
