  • Northeastern Minnesota leaders responded favorably yesterday to a proposal that a $190 million nuclear electric generating plant be established in the region to better serve future energy needs. The proposed plant would be constructed in the vicinity of Aitkin in 1977.
  • Wisconsin Gov. Patrick Lucey and U.S. Sen. Gaylord Nelson will participate today in a groundbreaking ceremony for a $4 million lodge near Cable. The two-story structure, to be known as Telemark Lodge, will have 150 rooms. News Tribune

  • At last night's Duluth City Council meeting, Mayor John Fedo proposed a 1992 budget that for the eighth straight year has no increase in city property taxes despite a $1.1 million reduction in state aid. The budget also contains no layoffs of city workers.
  • Northwest Airlines officials said yesterday that Northland residents probably won't have much chance for jobs at the proposed Duluth Airbus maintenance base for about six years.
