Northeastern Minnesota leaders responded favorably yesterday to a proposal that a $190 million nuclear electric generating plant be established in the region to better serve future energy needs. The proposed plant would be constructed in the vicinity of Aitkin in 1977.

Wisconsin Gov. Patrick Lucey and U.S. Sen. Gaylord Nelson will participate today in a groundbreaking ceremony for a $4 million lodge near Cable. The two-story structure, to be known as Telemark Lodge, will have 150 rooms. News Tribune

At last night's Duluth City Council meeting, Mayor John Fedo proposed a 1992 budget that for the eighth straight year has no increase in city property taxes despite a $1.1 million reduction in state aid. The budget also contains no layoffs of city workers.

Northwest Airlines officials said yesterday that Northland residents probably won't have much chance for jobs at the proposed Duluth Airbus maintenance base for about six years.
