The U.S. Coast Guard yesterday released its final report on the sinking of the ore carrier Edmund Fitzgerald on Nov. 10, 1975. The report finds no negligence on the part of the crew but contains criticism of the ship's condition.
About 50 members of the Communications Workers of America, Local 7214, held a noon-hour informational picket yesterday outside Northwestern Bell's offices in Duluth. Berway Swanstrom, president of the local, said their present contract is expiring in three days.

Three people were rescued from a fire yesterday in apartments above The Library and Zona Rosa restaurants at 1412 Tower Ave. in Superior. The city has had five suspicious fires in the area north of Belknap Street since July 19.
Northland Country Club in Duluth is still in the running as a possible site for a future U.S. Women's Open golf tournament, according to the United States Golf Association. Northland last hosted the U.S. Women's Open tournament in 1956.
