  • Duluth public school students will be returning to classes next month a day earlier than they expected and will be getting an abbreviated Christmas holiday. The changes are necessary to conform to the longer 182-day calendar adopted by the Duluth School Board this year.
  • Larry Trachsel, former Duluth Cathedral High School and UMD hockey player, was named yesterday to replace Dennis Genereau as head hockey coach at Cathedral. Genereau has decided to step down after four years of coaching at Cathedral. News Tribune

  • More car break-ins have been occurring in the Duluth area this summer than in past years. Most have taken place in parking areas around parks, hiking trails and tourist spots, including Lester Park, the Munger Trail, Canal Park and the DECC parking lot.
  • Matt King, an employee of the Kenwood Jubilee supermarket in Duluth, will compete in his second Minnesota Grocers Association "Best Bagger" contest this weekend at the Minnesota State Fair. King defeated other Jubilee employees last week to advance to the state competition.
