  • The sound of power saws and hammers is resounding nightly this week at 25 W. First St., where the Duluth Playhouse is setting up temporary quarters. Fire this spring destroyed the Playhouse theater at 6 S. 12th Ave. E.
  • The ketch Nonsuch, a replica of a 300-year-old sailing ship, is scheduled to arrive in the port of Duluth-Superior this week. The Nonsuch will eventually be shipped by train to the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature in Winnipeg. News Tribune

  • A California firm wants to build a $20 million wastepaper-recycling plant on Duluth's waterfront, according to the Seaway Port Authority of Duluth. The plant, proposed by Western Pacific Pulp and Paper, would remove ink from office wastepaper.
  • Duluth ranks 21st in the latest Money magazine survey of 300 American cities titled "The Best Places to Live Now."
