Members of Asbestos Workers Union Local 49 yesterday ratified a contract which ends a strike that began June 1 against three Duluth firms. At its peak, the strike idled about 350 workers in other unions who refused to cross picket lines.
Peter Garramone of Duluth at 17 hot dogs in 50 minutes yesterday to win the hot dog eating contest at Wiener King on Central Entrance. Tied for second with 16 hot dogs were Steve Watts and Dave McDonell, both of Duluth.

Members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Park held their second annual Neighborhood Picnic and Get-Together yesterday. The picnic is an attempt to attract new members and to make the church more of a focal point for the community.
A proposed aquatic community center for Superior, complete with fountains and a water slide, has suffered a setback that dims chances it will ever be built. A Douglas County committee decided yesterday that it won't consider funding its share of the project.
