  • Officials of Auto-Train Inc., a firm that provides train transportation for people and their automobiles, are interested in a possible Chicago-to-Duluth route, said Jeno F. Paulucci. The new route is feasible because of the region's current lack of passenger train service.
  • The seventh annual Arrowhead Home Show opened yesterday in the Duluth Arena before 1,500 people, the largest opening night since its inception. A stage show features three performers from the Lawrence Welk show and Johnny O'Brien, comedian and harmonica player.

  • St. Mary's Medical Center will probably lay off employees next month because of unexpected losses in revenue, hospital officials said yesterday. The hospital fell behind about $200,000 in January and February, and managers are investigating the cause.
