- Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officials said yesterday no new fires had been reported in the state and a dozen fires still burning were under control. A burning ban remains in effect in 50 of the state's 87 counties.
- St. Luke's hospital's Tel-med service will begin tomorrow, providing Twin Ports residents with answers to more than 200 health and medical questions over the phone. Callers will be directed to a volunteer who will select and play the appropriate tape for the specific question.

- After more than a year of meetings, the task force working on plans for Duluth's bayfront property yesterday approved a final set of recommendations. They include a Bayfront Festival Park, a visitor center, a botanical conservatory, a boat basin, and a commercial component.
- British '60s supergroup Herman's Hermits will headline Family Music Fest 2000 at Spirit Mountain on July 16. The Hermits lead a lineup that includes The Turtles, featuring Flo and Eddie; The Grass Roots; and Duluth's own Rock-A-Billy Revue.
