  • The Minnesota Independent-Republican Convention came to a close yesterday afternoon in the Duluth Arena. When final votes were counted, all ten national convention delegates and alternates will support California Gov. Ronald Reagan for president at the Republican National Convention in Detroit.
  • This week the Duluth Arena is the site of a concert extravaganza that features several popular musical acts. John Denver will appear Wednesday night, Ted Nugent performs on Saturday, and Sunday night Waylon Jennings will appear with the Joe Ely Band as an opening act.

  • Three of four candidates for mayor in Superior's recall election shared their ideas with citizens last evening. The candidates, Mayor Margaret Ciccone, Councilor Sharon Kotter and Kevin Peterson, appeared at a forum in the Superior Public Library hosted by the Superior Federation of Labor.
  • The more than three inches of rain that fell in the Northland last month has stopped the threat of a drought this spring. And the fire danger has plummeted across the region, even in the blowdown area in and around the BWCA.
