It was a busy Sunday for wildland firefighters in northern Minnesota, including aviation crews. Six helicopters worked 17 hours on seven fires and made 205 drops totaling more than 30,000 gallons of water. Three CL-215 water scoopers flew on four fires, making 100 drops totaling 140,000 gallons of water.
A P3 heavy air tanker made five drops totaling
13,000 gallons of retardant.
So far this spring there have been more than
820 wildfires in Minnesota burning across more than 16,000 acres. Wisconsin has seen more than 612 fires burn across more than 1,168 acres.
