Sophomore Byron Ninham of Fergus Falls (Minn.) Community College has verbally committed to attend Minnesota Duluth next year to play basketball, his coach confirmed Monday night.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound small forward averaged 16 points, eight rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game in leading the Spartans to a 19-10 record. The graduate of Cass Lake-Bena High School shot 79 percent from the free-throw line. He finished his career with 747 points,312 rebounds and 79 3-pointers.
Minnesota Duluth, which finished the season 16-13, will be looking for help at small forward next season with the graduation of standout Bryan Foss, a North Central Conference first-team selection this year.
"Byron is an outstanding offensive player who needs to keep getting stronger, but I think he has the ability to come in and be a factor right away,'' said Fergus Falls coach Jason Retzlaff. "And he's not only a great player and team leader, he's just a first-rate human being.''
