A 25-year-old Britt man is in custody after a nine-hour standoff that ended early Monday at a home north of Kinney.

St. Louis County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a residence on North Dark Lake Road about 3:08 p.m. Sunday after a male called 911 asking for help, according to a St. Louis County Sheriff's Department news release. The male then disconnected phone contact with 911.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they heard a male yelling inside the residence and a series of gunshots within the residence.

An emergency response team was dispatched to the scene. After attempts to contact and negotiate with the suspect were unsuccessful, chemical agents were deployed into the residence, but the suspect didn't leave the residence.

Response team members entered the residence about 12:05 a.m. Monday and took the 25-year-old into custody, according to St. Louis County Sheriff's Department Lt. Tim Harkonen.
