Searchers found the body of Stephen Douglas Brockway of Roseville, Minn., on Tuesday afternoon in a forested area about 45 miles north of Duluth.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office organized a search for Brockway, 44, after his car was found Monday along County Highway 16 in Bassett Township. They found his body just after noon in the Jenkins Creek Grouse Management Area. The preliminary cause of death is believed to be exposure, the Sheriff's Office said.

Brockway was considered a vulnerable adult with mental health issues. He was last seen at a relative's house on Jan. 21, but he wasn't reported missing until authorities found his unattended car covered in snow.

Brockway was found on a hunter walking trail about three-quarters of a mile from his car. There was no sign of foul play.

"We know he had hunted in that area in the fall but we don't know why he was up there at this time," said Lt. Ed Kippley of the Sheriff's Office. "He went in there on a walking trail and never made it out. The snow was just about waist deep."
