Dean Boedeker and Rita Moubry were setting White Fish nets on Fall Lake near the dam. Their motor quit, and they started floating toward the rapids near the dam. After putting out their anchor, they were stopped half way through the rapids and over the dam. They called for help on a cell phone.
Lake County Deputy Joe Linneman called the Lake County Rescue Squad and also called St. Louis Deputy Wes Snyder. The St. Louis County Rescue Squad was also called. Larry Herzog went into the water in a cold water suit to tie up a pull line to Boedeker's boat. The moving water pulled Herzog over the rapids past Boedeker's boat before he could right himself. After getting back to the boat and tying off Boedeker's boat with Boedeker and Moubry in it, it was pulled free and towed back to the boat landing at Fall Lake. Boedeker and Moubry were cold but OK. It was dark before they were pulled free, and it had started snowing at the time.
