The Virginia-Mountain Iron-Buhl boys golf team continued its torrid pace in the first round of the Class A high school golf meet Wednesday at Black Brook Golf Course at Izaty's Resort in Onamia, Minn.
Four Blue Devils shot in the 70s for a total of 309 and a 24-shot lead over second-place Glencoe-Silver Lake.
The Blue Devils also had four golfers in the 70s in the second round of the Section 7A meet on May 29.
Junior Casey Hill shot a 2-over-par 74, one shot off leader Ryan Forgaard of Shattuck-St. Mary's.
Jared Miettunen (77), Matt Babinski (79) and Dan Bidle (79) also finished in the top 10.

Two-time defending Section 7A champion Tyler Hill shot an 88.
Andy Smith of Cook County was tied for sixth at 78.
Marshall girls in adistant third
Defending champion Minnewaska Area shot a 326 for a 28-stroke lead after the first round of the Class A girls meet at the Sanctuary Golf Course at Izaty's.
Lisa Moline shot an 11-over 83 for Duluth Marshall, in third place with355 strokes and 29 off the pace.
Three-time defending champ Katie Detlefsen of Minnehaha Academy shot a 1-under 71 and held a six-stroke advantage. Kaytie Spangler of Ely shot an 81 and Courtney Murphy of Marshall had an 88.
Helstrom finishes third
Junior Ashli Helstrom of Hibbing-Chisholm had a two-round total of 157 to finish tied for third at the Class AA girls meet at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn.

Samantha Sommers won the individual title with a 1-over 147.
Burnsville won the team championship with 689 strokes.
* Scott Mathews of Grand Rapids shot an 85 and finished 51st with a 160 at the Class AA boys meet. Ryan Peterson of Eagan won the individual title with a 140.
Minnetonka won the team title with 605 strokes and Forest Lake was second in 611.

Mayo wins title
Top-ranked Rochester Mayo won the first boys team tennis title in school history by defeating Mounds View 4-3 at the Life Time Fitness 98th Street Club in Bloomington, Minn. No. 1 St. Paul Academy-Summit School claimed the Class A championship with a 4-3 win over Blake in Burnsville, Minn.
* No. 4 Elk River stopped Duluth East 6-1 in the Class AA consolation semifinals. East (19-3) got a point at No. 2 singles from sophomore Jake Tideman.
