It was the evening of the partial solar eclipse a few weeks back. After a great show in the sky above Island Lake, I was zipping back to town on Rice Lake Road when I felt compelled to take to the side roads past the green, rolling pastures of Gnesen Township.

Picturesque ground fog was forming in the hollows, and I found a good vantage point and pulled over. I walked up to a fenceline and raised my camera for a test shot -- at the exact same time that my presence startled three horses grazing nearby.

With no time to make adjustments, I snapped a few photos as the horses galloped across the frame, and hoped for the best. What resulted was not technically perfect, but in its flawed, hazy state it really captured the ethereal mood of that scene.

It was a nice result from taking the road less traveled; you might say it "eclipsed" the photos from earlier in the evening.
