Tom Stoneman of Hibbing drives along U.S. Highway 169 in Hibbing on Wednesday afternoon with his parrot, Maggie, perched on his shoulder.

Reporter John Myers and I were heading back from the Iron Range when John spotted the driver. I happened to be in the passenger side of our vehicle with the camera on my lap. We reduced our speed to match Stoneman’s, and I quickly banged off a few shots out the window as he passed. The tough part was getting his name. Luckily, he stopped at a light. I bolted out of the SUV, introduced myself and quickly got some information.

It turns out that Maggie is very fond of episodes of “Thomas the Tank Engine.”
