* Laura Alten joined HelmsBriscoe as a regional manager in the Midwest Regional office. Alten served as vice president of sales for seven years at Telemark Resort and Convention Center in Cable. She was responsible for coordinating meeting locations, trade show set-ups, special events and visits by national and international educators.
AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS
* Papa Murphy's International presented David Schauer with the company's President Award, which is presented to an employee who exceeds expectations and demonstrates an "above and beyond" attitude regarding the company and its franchisees. Schauer, of Duluth, earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Minnesota Duluth and joined Papa Murphy's in 2004. He is the field marketing director, responsible for the planning and execution of marketing strategy and tactics.

* One Heartland Center, formerly Camp Heartland, hosts an open house and dedication of Viking Pool and Waterworld from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the facility at 2600 Heinz Road in Willow River. The 16- by 40-foot pool includes a pool house and a fenced-in patio with a pergola. Waterworld is a 55- by 40-foot water play area with a 40-foot slip-and-dip, water bucket dump, 12 deck jets, a pergola and water wall.
