RETIREMENTS
* Ten UMD faculty members retired this year:
Richard Seybolt, professor of Spanish. He joined the foreign languages and literatures department in 1974 and specialized in Spanish literature from the Medieval and Golden ages, as well as the 19th and 20th centuries.
J. Clark Laundergan, professor of sociology-anthropology. He joined UMD in the 1970s and served as head of the sociology-anthropology department in the 1970s and '80s. He directed the Center for Addiction Studies and isa founding member of the Sociologists of Minnesota.
William Fleischman, professor of sociology-anthropology. He joined UMD in 1970 and taught theory, methods and statistics. He developed the internship program for sociology and criminology majors and served as internship coordinator for more than 20 years.

Thomas Bacig, professor of cultural studies. He started his UMD career in the English department and later served in the sociology-anthropology department. He was director of composition, head of the interdisciplinary programs department, chief negotiator and contract administrator for the University Education Association and director of the interdisciplinary studies major.
Stephen Adams, English professor. He was in the English department for 21 years and taught American literature and American studies courses.
Raymond Raab, an economics professor in the economics department. He was hired in 1970 and was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 1976 and to full professor in 1985. He taught microeconomics, statistics, government policy relating to business and industrial organization.
John Voss, assistant professor of mechanical and industrial engineering. He joined the departments of industrial education and industrial technology studies in 1971 and the industrial engineering department in 1990. He served as assistant department head, acted as accreditation efforts coordinator and assisted companies in the Duluth area with process improvement projects.
M. Reza-ul "Raj" Karim, professor of biology. He joined UMD in 1989 as associate vice chancellor for academic administration and research and started teaching in the biology department in 1993. He worked with the Minority Access to Research Careers Scholars Program and served as adviser of the Preveterinary Medicine Club.
Donald Collins, assistant professor of health, physical education and recreation. He joined the health, physical education and recreation department in 1991 and served as a coordinator of the coaching minor program and taught courses related to facility management and the organizational health, physical education and recreation.
Robert L. Flagler, assistant professor. He has taught at UMD for 32 years in the Supportive Services Program.
