The new London Road McDonald's is scheduled to open at 4 a.m. Oct. 22. And with it comes upscale comfort: a lounge area, a counter for watching cable news on plasma TV, upholstered chairs and free WiFi to encourage the young hip adults to come in, have a specialty drink or two and linger.
Ya, sounds like Starbucks, but McDonald's officials say they're not trying to compete with Starbucks.
Well, you be the judge.
Construction began three months ago after the old building at 26th Avenue East and London Road was razed. The new building is the first in Duluth to sport McDonald's new contemporary look, the fast food restaurant chain's first major makeover in 30 years.
The new exterior look will include a flatter roof, awnings and more pleasing landscaping. And while it maintains McDonald's traditional red and yellow motif, the red is more muted.
The grand opening weekend will offer up plenty of special deals to celebrate.
