Good for Pickwick, good for Fitger's
News that a refurbished Pickwick will reopen in August has the folks at Fitger's -- just a stone's throw away in Duluth -- pretty happy.
"We're really excited," said Scott Vesterstein, an owner/managing partner of the Fitger's Brewery Complex. "It creates this synergy for Fitger's and draws more people in. It creates more options for people to come to this area. We're looking forward to them opening. It's a good thing for this area."

"And," he added, "we're very excited about the Pickwick being remodeled, and we're looking forward to working with our neighbors.
About that remodeling...
If you loved Pickwick's vintage early 1900s German pub look , don't worry. New owners Tim and Amy Wright of Duluth plan to keep what's there intact, restore what's been altered and add more period decor.
"We're going to bring it back." Tim Wright promised.
But why take on such a project? After all, the 96-year-old restaurant has seen its reputation slip in recent years.
"We like historic properties," he said. "We have a fun time with history and real estate. And it was too good of an offer to refuse."
No details on that deal. But the Wrights, who built and ran a luxury Wisconsin resort, are eager to get back to running a business.
