Superior firefighters responded to a large fire in a pile of wood and debris Sunday afternoon at the Lakehead construction and demolition landfill off County Road 105 outside Superior.
The fire in South Superior was reported just after3:30 p.m. It did not spread, but spewed considerable smoke. No one was injured, Superior Fire battalion Chief Jim Rigstad said. Firefighters were on the scene until after 8 p.m. The Town of Superior Fire Department also helped bring water to the fire, and landfill crews used a bulldozer to help battle the blaze.
The fire was at the same Kimmes-family owned landfill, although in a different area, where four people died of hydrogen sulfide gas inhalation Nov. 1.
