For the fourth year, Mayor Herb Bergson has issued a proclamation in recognition of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Days.

Pride Days run from Thursday through Sept. 3.

"We want to make it known that we support the struggle for equal rights for everyone," Bergson said this morning during a news conference. "The 21st annual Pride Festival is a way to value everyone's dignity, which is an absolutely basic human right."

The event begins Thursday with a mayor's reception at the Depot. It also includes an art tour, entertainment, children's games, and a parade.

Bergson's decision to issue a proclamation for GLBT Pride Days in his first year of mayor reversed the long-held position by former Mayor Gary Doty not to recognize the event.
