The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension reported Thursday morning that they tracked Wednesday’s anonymous threat to northern Minnesota schools to a Hoyt Lakes juvenile.

The boy and his parents are cooperating with the East Range Police Department, and the BCA said Thursday that it had “determined that there is no ongoing threat to schools related to this incident,” adding that the juvenile had no access to weapons.

The juvenile had not been arrested, the BCA reported. He is not a student in the Mesabi East School District, said St. Louis County Attorney Mark Rubin.
According to the BCA, the juvenile on Wednesday posted a nonspecific online threat to “carry out violence” at an unnamed northern Minnesota school. The BCA notified northern Minnesota police and school officials, and dozens of agencies responded, sending police to schools across the region - including in Duluth, Hermantown, Two Harbors, Silver Bay, Proctor and many other school districts.

Police remained at the schools until students were sent home, and no problems were reported Wednesday,

The BCA has been in communication with the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office regarding possible charges related to the threat. Rubin said Thursday that he hadn't yet seen the full report from police.
