DULUTH -- Les Bass, who has worked for the city of Duluth for 27 years and served as interim finance director during a search for a permanent replacement for Todd Torvinen, has been named to the position permanently.
Torvinen resigned earlier this fall, and Mayor Gary Doty announced the decision Thursday morning.
"We're very pleased to have a person of Les' demonstrated experience moving up to assume new responsibility," Doty said in a faxed press release.
In his 17 years as city auditor, Bass supervised a 20-person staff and was responsible for all accounting and payroll functions for the city. He is enrolled in the Management Program at the College of St. Scholastica and is a member of the Lake Superior College Accounting Advisory Board, the Fond-du-Luth Economic Development Commission and the Association Boards of the Duluth Police and Fire pension funds.
His appointment must be approved by the Duluth City Council, which is expected to take up the matter at its next meeting, Monday night.
