The Carlton County Sheriff's Office can put a dollar figure on the theft of athletic equipment Monday from a shed at Robert Johnson Memorial Field in Barnum: $4,000.

But what it couldn't calculate is the effect the theft would have on area youth baseball and softball teams.

According to the Sheriff's Office, a large amount of athletic equipment was taken from a storage shed at the field early Monday morning.

Evidence led deputies to suspects and, on Tuesday, much of the equipment was found hidden near an apartment complex in Barnum. The suspects admitted to taking the equipment when interviewed.

The case has been referred to the Carlton County Attorney's Office. Two juveniles and one adult male are expected to be charged in the near future.
