Back-to-back fire calls late Monday afternoon had firefighters busy in Superior.
The first call came in at 3:30 p.m. for a kitchen fire started with a pan of grease, Superior Fire Department Battalion Chief Vern Johnson said. Damage at the single-family home at 2024 E. Sixth St. was limited to the kitchen and caused $5,000 to $10,000 in damage, Johnson said.
The second fire call came as firefighters were mopping up the first about 5 p.m. Johnson said careless smoking caused $55,000 to $60,000 in damage to a single-family home at 1819 Iowa Avenue. The fire was contained to the upper level of the two-story home.
In both fires, occupants in the homes suffered slight smoke inhalation, Johnson said.
