Babbitt man identified in fatal crash

A 74-year-old man was killed Thursday in a single-vehicle crash in Morris Township.

Babbitt resident, George J. Amitrano, 74, was pronounced dead at scene of a crash on the 1900 block of Highway 21 North in Morris Township on Thursday. First responders arrived at the single-vehicle crash around 3:32 p.m, according to a news release from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.

Slippery road conditions are being considered as a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the sheriff's office and Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.

Ely Fire and EMS, Morris first responders and fire, Minnesota State Patrol and the Lake County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
