An autopsy confirmed Monday that the boy swept away by a current while swimming in Amity Creek last week drowned, authorities say.
The body of Jefferson Bowen Jr., 13, was recovered Sunday afternoon after a recreational boater reported a body in the lake up the shore from the mouth of Lester River.
"The medical examiner has affirmed that the cause of death is drowning," said Dave Phillips, St. Louis County undersheriff.
"We're really grateful that this has come to conclusion and our thoughts are with the family now," Phillips said.
More than 100 people participated in the five-day search for the missing boy, said Capt. Tom Crossmon of the St. Louis County Search and Rescue Squad.

Bowen was last seen by friends at the Amity Creek swimming hole known as the Deeps before he was pulled under by the current about 4 p.m. Aug. 2. The popular spot for jumping from rocks into the water has been the scene of several accidents.
