The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office has identified the three people who were injured on Saturday when their boat crashed into an island on Crane Lake after the boat’s spotlight malfunctioned.
Sherri Blazevic, 60, of Grasston, Minn., was in the boat’s cabin area at the time of the crash and was transported to St. Luke’s hospital in Duluth with significant facial lacerations, according to the Sheriff’s Office. A 33-year-old woman was also in the cabin at the time of the crash and was uninjured. William St. Germaine, 37, of Minneapolis and Steven Blazevic, 65, of Grasston sustained what authorities called minor injuries in the crash and were transported to Cook Hospital & Care Center.
The 24-foot boat they were in struck the southern tip of Indian Island on Crane Lake in Voyageurs National Park after a mechanical malfunction caused the boat’s spotlight to stop working at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. As the driver of the boat attempted to slow the boat down due to the loss of the lighting, the boat struck the island and came to rest on the rocky edge of the island, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
