Authorities have identified an Iowa man whose body was recovered Monday from the waters of Lake Two in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
According to the Lake County Sheriff's Department, Michael William McDonald was found in about 15 feet of water at 8:45 p.m. Monday. McDonald, 43, was from Albia, Iowa.
According to the Sheriff's Department, the man's canoe capsized Monday afternoon as he was crossing Lake Two east of Ely. According to St. Louis County Search and Rescue Squad Captain Tom Crossmon, two people reportedly were in the boat and one made it to safety.
Members of the St. Louis County Search and Rescue Squad, U.S. Forest Service, Lake County Sheriff's Department and Lake County Search and Rescue Squad responded to the scene.
