Ashland County authorities have identified the teen who was killed when his vehicle rear-ended a school bus last week.

David R. Hamann, 16, of Mason, was on his way to Ashland High School when his 2007 Kia struck the bus on State Highway 112 about two miles south of Ashland at 7:45 a.m. Friday, according to the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office.

While the crash remained under investigation Monday, the sheriff’s office reported that excessive speed appeared to be a contributing factor.

The bus, which was carrying 18 students, had slowed to make a left turn when it was struck, Sheriff Michael Brennan said. Two of the students on the bus were transported by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Ashland and the remaining passengers were taken by bus to the hospital for evaluation, but none of the students was seriously injured.
