Authorities have identified an 82-year-old man killed in an Aurora house fire Wednesday.
The East Range Police Department said Donald Gene Ray died after several unsuccessful attempts to rescue him from his burning home.
The fire was reported at 12:46 p.m. at Ray’s residence, 109 W. Second Ave. N. Told that the man was still inside, first responders attempted a rescue but were turned back by heavy flames and smoke, according to the police department.
Ray was the only person inside the house at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office, though authorities said it does not appear to be suspicious.
