FARGO, N.D. -- A grand jury will hear the cases of two Fargo men accused of trying to kidnap a 14-year-old girl from her school Monday in Bowling Green, Ky., the prosecutor said Friday.

Under Kentucky law, Dragan Jovanovic, 42, and Elvis Tahirovic, 18, must be indicted within 60 days or they will be automatically released, said Christopher Cohron, commonwealth's attorney for the Eight Judicial Circuit in Warren County, Ky.

The two men were initially arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnapping after they allegedly tried to take the girl from her school and bring her back to North Dakota to marry Jovanovic's 14-year-old son.

Jovanovic and Tahirovic remain in the Warren County Regional Jail on $100,000 cash bail each. They appeared in court Friday morning, at which time their cases were bound over to a grand jury.

Prosecutors will present the case to a 12-person grand jury, which can ask questions, seek additional information and question witnesses. At least nine of the 12 grand jury members must determine there's enough evidence to indict the men to send the case to circuit court, Cohron said.

Jovanovic's son and 16-year-old daughter accompanied the men to Kentucky and were taken into protective custody. Cohron said he knows their status but can't disclose it because they are juveniles.

Bowling Green police said the two 14-year-olds had been communicating for about a year via an Internet social networking site.

Fargo police have not received any requests to assist in the investigation, Sgt. Mark Lykken said.
