Superior police are investigating an early morning armed robbery today of the Spur gas station at 1706 Tower Ave.
Officers were dispatched to the store about 1:51 a.m. When they arrived, the male clerk reported he had been restocking coolers in the back of the store when he heard the door alarm sound. As he walked to the front of the store, he was charged by a woman wearing dark clothing and a hood over her head. He described the woman as about 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-6, heavy-set, wearing sunglasses and something over the lower part of her face. The clerk said the woman had a tire iron in one hand and a handgun in the other.
The suspect asked the clerk how to open the cash register and told him to step back into the coolers or she would shoot him. The clerk watched through the coolers' glass doors as the suspect opened the register and took the paper currency and all the quarters.
The suspect then returned to the coolers, told the clerk no to call the police and ran out of the store. She ran to the north of the store, but it is unknown if she was on foot or had a vehicle waiting.
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the TIP line at (715) 395-7468.
