An apparent tornado touchdown caused damage Friday evening near the community of Greenbush in northwestern Minnesota's Roseau County.

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks, N.D., relayed reports from trained spotters and law enforcement officials of an apparent tornado that twisted grain bins and tore the roof off a farmhouse about 9 miles west of Greenbush at about 7:20 p.m. Wind-driven hail estimated at the size of golf balls reportedly broke windows near Greenbush.

Earlier in the evening, a tornado was reported to the northwest in Kittson County, Minn., along with significant wind damage and large hail in Kittson County and Pembina County, N.D. Golf-ball-size hail was reported near Pembina, with significant tree and property damage including cracked windshields on vehicles.  Nickel-size hail was reported in Littlefork just after 10 p.m. Friday. There is a chance for strong, possibly severe thunderstorms in the Northland on Saturday as a cold front moves across the region. Damaging wind will be the main threat from any storms that develop.
