Parts of the Northland may see snowfall in excess of a half-foot on Wednesday, as the next early-season winter storm affects the region.
Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories are in effect for much of the region.
"A Canadian clipper will bring widespread light to moderate snowfall ... to the Northland (on) Wednesday and Wednesday evening," the National Weather Service reported. "Heavy snowfall is forecast for the higher terrain of Minnesota's North Shore."
The heaviest snowfall is expected Wednesday afternoon and evening.
A winter storm warning is in effect from noon to midnight Wednesday for the North Shore, including Two Harbors and Grand Marais. Total snowfall of 3 to 5 inches is expected near Lake Superior, with 5 to 8 inches in the higher terrain.

Winter weather advisories are in effect from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday for the Twin Ports, Iron Range, Cloquet, Interstate 35 corridor, Grand Rapids and International Falls areas. Snowfall of 2 to 4 inches is expected, with local amounts up to a half-foot in the higher terrain near Duluth.
A winter weather advisory is in effect from noon to midnight Wednesday for Ely and the Gunflint Trail. Snowfall of 2 to 4 inches is expected, with some 6-inch amounts closer to the North Shore.
There will be additional chances for snow in the region on Friday and Saturday.
