With the Fritz finally officially on the books ("Trunk Highway marked 53 from its intersection with Superior Street to its intersection with Central Entrance in the city of Duluth [is hereby] designated 'Walter F. Mondale Drive,'" the new state law reads), politicos from far and wide are preparing for the dedication.
"I've just spoken with Mike Jaros, who said the bill to create Mondale Drive passed late in the session," City of Duluth Communications Director Jeff Papas wrote in an e-mail two weeks ago, referring to the state representative who marshaled through the law.
"He said there is a ceremony in the planning stages for noon on June 12 at the service station on Trinity and Anderson roads, which Vice President Mondale is scheduled to attend."
Sounds splendid -- so long as everyone who shows up keeps their eyes on the gas pumps -- and waves only made-in-U.S.A. flags.
