Hermantown police say a suspect in a string of burglaries was nabbed after a high-speed car chase that reached speeds over 100 mph Thursday.

Police went to investigate a burglary Thursday morning at Easy Housing, 4978 Miller Trunk Highway, when one of the suspects was seen at a nearby motel, said Hermantown deputy police chief Shawn Padden.

An officer went to confront the suspect, Padden said, but the man got into his car and fled, leading officers on a high-speed chase reaching speeds over 100 mph that ended just south of Floodwood.

Numerous law enforcement agencies were involved in the chase, including the Minnesota State Patrol, which used stop sticks to puncture the suspect's car tires. No one was hurt.

Many of the items stolen from Easy Housing were found in the suspect's car, Padden said, adding that at least five businesses were burglarized.

Hermantown police are set to serve warrants on what Padden said were other suspects of interest.

The suspect, who is from Duluth, is being held at the St. Louis County Jail on charges of fleeing police officers, reckless driving and possession of stolen property, Padden said.
