SAGINAW -- With eight of nine starters back for the AlBrook softball team, the Falcons are looking to improve on their 8-10 record of a year ago.
"We return our entire infield from last year, so we should be strong there," said Steph Sklors, the Falcons second-year coach. "We think our seniors will be strong leaders for us, and we will expect them to carry some of the offense for us."
Laura Sylvester at third, Meaghan Williams at shortstop, Jodi Thygeson at first and Ashley Kochevar at second will be keys to the team.
Katelyn Wood, a ninth grader, will pitch and another ninth grader, Ashley Blom, will start at catcher.
Expect Nicole Welsh and Jenny Anderson to be important cogs in the outfield.
"I think we're going to be strong with our bats, and we'll be able to hit the ball," said Sklors. "Right now, with the weather the way it is, we've been working on bunt coverages and situations a lot, and hope that the weather breaks so we can play again."
