An Aurora man suffered life-threatening injuries when his motorcycle struck a deer near Gilbert early Saturday, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

Michael Raymond Burke, 56, was traveling north on State Highway 135 just before 3 a.m. when his 2009 Yamaha crashed into the animal just east of the city of Gilbert.

Burke was airlifted from the scene to St. Luke's hospital in Duluth. The Patrol said road conditions were dry at the time, and Burke was not wearing a helmet.
