A 27-year-old man from rural Gilbert received life-threatening injuries in a single-vehicle crash near Friday night near Biwabik.

First responders located Zachary Curfman unresponsive and severely injured in an upside-down vehicle around 9:15 p.m. on Vermillion Trail, south of East Raymond Road, according to a news release from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.

Fire and EMS crews removed Curfman and transported him by air to a Duluth hospital. He was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. However, the sheriff's office said it appears the vehicle was traveling south on Vermillion Trail when it left the roadway in a curve, the driver overcorrected and then lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle rolled multiple times and struck several trees.
