A 45-year-old Garfield, Minnesota man was killed Friday during a two-vehicle crash 1 mile south of Hinckley on Interstate 35.
The man's name is being withheld until noon Saturday, a Minnesota State Patrol crash report said. He was struck traveling north on I-35 in a Kia Sportage when a southbound vehicle drifted through the median and crossed into the northbound lanes.
Two people in the other vehicle remained in life-threatening condition. Tabitha Sue Sigler, 21, of Cambridge, Minnesota, was driving, and Santino Hilario Chavez, 36, of St. Paul, was a passenger in the Mitsubishi Endeavor that crossed lanes. They were transported to separate hospitals in the Twin Cities.
The crash was reported at 4:01 p.m., and caused half-hour delays on I-35 during what was already a busy day for traffic, given the fishing opener Saturday.
The Pine County Sheriff's Office, Hinckley Fire and Rescue, LifeLink and North Ambulance responded to the call.
