Thousands of gallons of water from a burst pipe flowed into Duluth's Greysolon Plaza early Tuesday evening.
According to City of Duluth spokesperson Kate Van Daele, a pipe in the skywalk connecting a parking ramp in the 200 block of East First Street to the Greysolon and the NorShor Theatre burst late Tuesday afternoon. Due to the slope of the skywalk, water flowed into the basement, first and second floors of the Plaza.
The Duluth Fire Department responded to the incident around 4:11 p.m. By 5:30 p.m., Van Daele said the department had pumped out thousands of gallons of water using a sump pump.
Much of the damage occurred inside the Gresyolon's Moorish Room on the first floor. The NorShor Theater had to mop up some water, according to Van Daele, but didn't sustain damage.
No residents of the building were displaced due to the incident.
At the time there is no estimate for the amount of damage, but Van Daele stated it was “significant.”
