A woman was killed in a motor vehicle crash on Mesaba Avenue at Seventh Street around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Officers from the Duluth Police Department learned that an SUV traveling up Mesaba crossed the median and struck a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction.

Duluth firefighters and Mayo Ambulance personnel performed CPR on a woman who had been riding in the SUV for several minutes before she was pronounced dead, according to a News Tribune staffer reporting from the scene. Her name was withheld by authorities pending notification of next of kin.

According to a news release from Duluth police, the man who had been driving the SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The male driver of the truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Police did not name either driver, or provide further details, citing an active investigation.

Authorities closed both downbound lanes from Seventh Street to North Third Avenue West. One upbound lane was closed as well.
