A 40-year-old Two Harbors man was transported to a Duluth hospital with life-threatening injuries following an ATV accident in Pequaywan Lake just before midnight Saturday.
Deputies with the St. Louis County Sheriff's office responded at 11:55 p.m. to 8744 Pequaywan Lake Road to the report of an ATV accident with injuries. According to a report from the office, a 40-year-old man was found lying unconscious on the pavement with severe injuries. The driver's name is currently being withheld pending the notification of family members.
Deputies learned through investigation that the man had left the area at a high rate of speed on his ATV and lost control, which caused the ATV to roll and the driver to be ejected. Alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors of the crash. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
