One man was killed and another was arrested for criminal vehicular homicide after a fatal ATV crash early Saturday near Cohasset.

Three men, all 21 years old, were riding a single ATV when the driver apparently swerved to avoid a deer and struck a power pole along County Road 459 shortly after 2 a.m., according to the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said alcohol was a contributing factor.

One passenger, Dylan Robert Christy, of Grand Rapids, was airlifted to a Duluth hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other passenger, Alexander Michael Rajala, also of Grand Rapids, was taken to Grand Itasca Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, a Cohasset man, did not suffer any injuries and remains in the Itasca County Jail. The News Tribune generally does not identify suspects until they have been formally charged.
