Two injured in snowmobile crash near Britt

Two men were injured in a head-on snowmobile crash near Britt on Friday afternoon.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Chad Ellinson, 43, of Buffalo, Minn., and Wayne Kuehl, 74, of Hutchinson, Minn., were traveling on the Taconite Snowmobile Trail about 2.5 miles east of U.S. Highway 53 near Britt just before 2 p.m. when they collided head-on as they were attempting to negotiate a corner on the trail.

Ellinson was transported by North Memorial Air Care to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth with non-life threatening injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said. Kuehl was transported by Virginia Ambulance to Essentia Health-Virginia with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office. Assisting agencies included the Virginia Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service, Pike-Sandy-Britt first responders and the St. Louis County Rescue Squad.
