WOODBURY, Minn. — A 33-year-old Woodbury man died Thursday morning in a rear-end collision with a semi on Interstate 94 at Radio Drive in the eastern Twin Cities metro, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The crash occurred at 7 a.m. June 13 in the westbound lanes as traffic began to slow during the morning rush hour, according to the State Patrol.

A semitrailer truck driven by Shane Thomas Michaels, 28, of Marinette, Wis., rear-ended a 2015 Nissan car driven by the fatally injured man, identified by the State Patrol as Andrew Steven Russ, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.

Russ’ car then slammed into a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Bonnie Brewer Rizzardi, 39, of Woodbury. The Equinox was pushed into the back of a 2014 Lexus driven by Colene Beth Erickson, 51, of Woodbury.

Russ was pronounced dead at the scene. Rizzardi, who suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Michaels and Erickson were not injured.

The collision remains under investigation by the State Patrol, which said alcohol and road conditions were not factors in the crash. All four motorists were using seat belts, but the State Patrol said none of the airbags deployed in their vehicles.
