HITTERDAL, Minn. — A fatal crash near here is under investigation after a car was found upside down in water this weekend.

A passerby reported the crash to emergency dispatchers at 5:18 a.m. Sunday, June 2, after seeing a white Chevrolet Malibu in a slough about a mile north of Hitterdal on Minnesota Highway 32, said Sgt. Darin Bredman of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

At least one body was pulled from the car, Bredman said, though he didn’t know whether there were any other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. It’s unclear when or how the car came to be submerged.

Bredman said he didn’t know the age, gender or hometown of the victim. It’s possible more information could be released Monday, June 3, he said.

Hitterdal is about 30 miles northeast of Fargo.
